Island Tour
One thing that we had never done before was take a tour of the smaller islands of Thailand. We decided that it might make for too long of a day for the kids this trip, but Tiffany and I could not pass up the opportunity so we signed up for a speedboat tour of the Phi Phi Islands (did I mention that I have the best husband ever?). Our tour company picked us up in the back of a pickup truck and took us to Ao Nang Beach, the departure location for most tours from Krabi. There were about 20 people on our boat, we sat up front so we could enjoy the views throughout the trip. The scenery was amazing and the weather was awesome - the pictures don't do it justice.

We passed lots of small islands and Chicken Island (do you see the chicken head?) on the way to our first stop: Bamboo Island. The boat gets as close to the shore as possible and everyone climbs into the water and wades to shore. Bamboo Island was white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
From there we headed to a bay where we got to get in and snorkel with some fish. We also passed a cave where swallow nests are protected. If I understood our tour guide correctly, swallow saliva has many health applications, including hair health (who knew!!?) so people protect the nests from illegal harvesters.
We got off at Maya Beach, the film location of the movie 'The Beach'. It was amazing, but too crowded for my tastes - The beach was filled with tourists just like us.
The next stop was lunch on Phi Phi Don, which was not delicious, but we ate quickly and found a quiet place to sit and cool off before we had to be back to the boat.

The last stop on our tour was another snorkel spot. I chose not to snorkel, but just jumped off the boat and relaxed in the warm water. If you know me at all, you will know that the water had to be really really warm for me to actually jump in. And no, I do not have a beard, it was just windy.
The islands were amazing and I am so glad I got to see them with Tiffany. I will definitely come back to do it with Chris and the kids when they are a bit older.
We walked down the street outside the hotel grounds to do dinner one night. We love the local thai food.
