She is a natural - Surf's up!
Day 1 was full of competition - Here Chris is trying to outdo Topher and Pop Pop in the surfing across the pool on a boogie board competition, while Tilly cheers him on. Topher won.
The second day we went to Hapuna Beach, a cool beach with lots of sand and surf.
Tilly has come a long way. Last February we were in Hawaii and she wouldn't set foot in the sand. Now she is covered in it!
The next day we went to see the volcano - the vents are in the background.
Naptime?
Flying a kite at the southernmost (and windiest?) point of the U.S.
Noodle fight! Ganging up on Pop Pop.
The next morning we awoke to the tsunami sirens at 6am. We weren't sure what they were, but quickly learned that a tsunami was on the way, and we were to evacuate. Without anywhere to go, we packed up enough food and clothes to get through the night and headed to the local shopping center parking lot with hundreds of other people.
Anxiously awaiting the excitement that never arrived... we spent 5 hours in that parking lot.
But we eventually got a table at a restaurant and killed time there watching the big screen for news. We were allowed back to our house around 2pm.
Sorry for the abundance of speedo shots, but I thought they were too funny not to post. This was Chris's response to the tsunami threat. He is ready...
Hanging in the pool with Pop Pop.
Windiest beach. Ever.
We hiked through a lava field to a less windy beach and played in the sand until Topher and Elizabeth had to catch their plane.
Goodbye Uncle Tio and Auntie E.! Wish they could have stayed longer, but maybe we can all do it again next year.
More pics to come of Week 2!
